API referenceVideos

Look up a video by URL

POST/v1/videos/lookup

The same operation as GET /v1/videos/{platform}/{id}, addressed by whatever URL the user pasted. Platform and id are parsed out of the URL, so both spellings charge and cache alike. Instagram /p/, /reel/ and /reels/ URLs are one post: they share one cache entry. TikTok short links (vm.tiktok.com, vt.tiktok.com, tiktok.com/t/...) are resolved by following TikTok's redirect (https only, at most 3 hops, 5 s), after the 402 check and before the Run opens; the time spent comes out of wait. An estimate for a short link quotes the fresh price with cached: false, since the video is unknown until resolved. Idempotency matches the URL as sent, so a retry replays without resolving again. YouTube accepts watch?v=, /shorts/, /embed/ and youtu.be URLs, e.g. {"url":"https://www.youtube.com/shorts/myZ9kn9MIWQ"}.

Open in Playground(no API Key needed)

Price

3 credits, the same when a Snapshot under 24 h old can answer.

Supports "estimate": true in the body: the reply is the price in Credits and whether it would be cached, with no Run created and nothing charged.

A cached result costs the same as a fresh one; cached says which you got.

Parameters

NameInTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
Idempotency-KeyheaderstringOptional—1-255 printable ASCII characters. Replaying this key with the same payload returns the original Run (202 while it is still running); a different payload, or a different operation, is a 409 idempotency_conflict.

Request body

application/json

object

  • urlstringrequiredlength 1 to 2048Any TikTok, Instagram (/p/, /reel/, /reels/) or Shorts URL, including a TikTok short link, or a Facebook /reel/{id}, /watch?v={id} or /{page}/videos/{id} URL.
  • waitnumbervalue 0 to 120
  • estimatebooleanWhen a source the call would read is unavailable and the answer is not served from cache, the estimate adds unavailable, the { platform, capability } parts it cannot reach, or answers 503 source_unavailable when it can reach none.

Responses

200 OK

The Run finished inside the wait budget: { run, result }. The example was answered from a Snapshot under 24 h old, which is why run.cached is true; a stored answer costs the same as a fresh one, so charge_credits equals list_price_credits.
