Search ad libraries

POST/v1/ads/search

The Meta or TikTok ad library, by keyword or by advertiser — exactly one of query or advertiser. On Meta, advertiser is a Facebook Page id, a Page URL or a name; a name several Pages carry fails with 409 advertiser_ambiguous and candidates (page_id, name, page_url, instagram, ad_count) instead of a guess, and nothing is charged; an estimate answers the same 409 when two or more stored Advertisers carry the name, without asking the library. An advertiser search by Page id or Page URL whose advertiser had a complete observation in the last 6 hours (a status: all search with no other filter read to the end, or a fresh GET /v1/advertisers/{page_id}) is served from what is stored at the same per-Ad price, unless it sets country; advertiser searches say cached and as_of. Meta takes Meta's filters (country, omitted for every country; status, running by default; kind, commercial by default; media_type; placements; a start-date range) and a limit up to 500, read across as many library pages as it takes; follow next_cursor for more. Every Meta Ad returned is stored with its Advertiser and a Snapshot of its public state, and is one item of the Run. A keyword search is always fetched live. If the library fails part-way, the Run is partial, charged only for the Ads delivered, and incomplete says why; next_cursor resumes where it stopped. If it cannot be reached at all the Run fails with source_unavailable and nothing is charged, and an estimate answers source_unavailable too. analyze: true adds Ad analysis to the first 50 Ads: video Ads get the full video set (transcript, hook, persuasion, tone, visual, safety), image and carousel Ads the image set (copy angle, offer, CTA, visual format, topics, sentiment), read from our archived media with the ad copy as context. Analysis is computed once per Ad and version and reused by every later Run, charged the same as when computed; every Ad carries the analysis already stored for it either way. The passes run after the Ads are read, so expect a 202 and poll the Run; an Ad whose analysis fails is not charged at all and makes the Run partial, and a Run where no Ad got an analysis fails and charges nothing. The TikTok library is one page per call, global, not stored, and refuses the Meta-only filters (and analyze) rather than ignoring them. Ads are trimmed: never the raw library payload.

Price

Meta: 1 credit per Ad delivered, the same when served from a recent advertiser observation, plus 20 credits per Ad analysed with analyze, computed or already stored; the estimate quotes limit Ads, all analysed up to the cap with analyze. TikTok: 3 credits per page.

Supports "estimate": true in the body: the reply is the price in Credits and whether it would be cached, with no Run created and nothing charged.

A cached result costs the same as a fresh one; cached says which you got.

Parameters

NameInTypeRequiredDefaultDescription
Idempotency-KeyheaderstringOptional—1-255 printable ASCII characters. Replaying this key with the same payload returns the original Run (202 while it is still running); a different payload, or a different operation, is a 409 idempotency_conflict.

  • advertiserstringlength at least 1
  • countrystringlength 2 to 2Two-letter country code; omitted searches every country. Meta only; the TikTok library is global and refuses it.
  • statusstringone of active, inactive, allRunning (active, the default), stopped (inactive) or all. Meta only; the TikTok library refuses it.
  • kindstringone of commercial, political, issue, allcommercial (the default), political, issue or all. Meta only; the TikTok library refuses it.
  • media_typestringone of video, image, carouselOnly Ads of this format; omitted means every format. Meta only; the TikTok library refuses it.
  • placementsarray of stringitems 1 to 4Only Ads placed on at least one of these. Meta only; the TikTok library refuses it.
  • started_afterstringISO date or timestamp; Ads that started on or after it. Meta only; the TikTok library refuses it.
  • started_beforestringISO date or timestamp; Ads that started before it. Meta only; the TikTok library refuses it.
  • limitintegervalue 1 to 500Meta: default 50, at most 500, fetched across as many library pages as it takes. TikTok: default 25, at most 30.
  • cursorstringlength at least 1
  • order_bystringone of relevance, winner, days_running, start_daterelevance (the default) keeps the library's order; winner sorts by winner Score, days_running by days run, start_date newest first. Highest first, unknowns last; it sorts the returned page, and next_cursor still follows the library's order. Meta only; the TikTok library accepts only relevance.
  • analyzebooleanAd analysis on the first 50 Ads: 20 credits per Ad, whether computed or already stored at this Ad's current version. Meta only; the TikTok library refuses it.
  • waitnumbervalue 0 to 120
  • estimatebooleanMeta: When a source the call would read is unavailable and the answer is not served from cache, the estimate adds unavailable, the { platform, capability } parts it cannot reach, or answers 503 source_unavailable when it can reach none. A TikTok library estimate quotes the price without checking.

402 Payment Required

insufficient_balance — the Balance cannot cover the quoted price (the worst case for Research and enriched search). No Run is created and nothing is charged. A multi-item Run whose Balance runs short later charges its completed items up to the Balance and ends partial.

502 Bad Gateway

A Run that opened and then failed is answered as application/problem+json with its problem's status — vendor_error here, not_found as 404 — and the Run envelope alongside, so the Run id is kept. A failed Run is never charged.

503 Service Unavailable

source_unavailable: every source this Run reads failed or is switched off. The Run fails uncharged, with its envelope alongside; endpoints names the source. Retry later rather than treating it as empty.
