How We Transcribe Reels

Instagram does not publish captions for Reels the way TikTok and YouTube do, so we transcribe the Reel's audio with speech-to-text. We keep the result, so a Reel transcribed once loads in seconds the next time anyone asks for it. Speech-to-text can misspell names, brands and slang, so check those before you quote a line. How do I get the transcript of an Instagram Reel?

Which Instagram links work?
A link to a single public Reel (instagram.com/reel/...) or to a video post (instagram.com/p/...). Profile, Story, Highlight and Live links do not work. For TikTok or YouTube Shorts links, use the Video Transcript Generator.
How does the Instagram transcript tool work?
Instagram does not publish a caption track for Reels, so we transcribe the Reel's audio with speech-to-text. The first time a Reel is transcribed it can take up to a minute. We keep the text, so the same Reel loads in seconds after that.
Why does it say the Reel has no speech?
The tool transcribes spoken words only. A Reel with only music, or with text on screen and no voice, has no speech to transcribe, so there is no transcript to show. A photo post has none either.
Is the Instagram transcript tool free?
