Guide for marketers
Social media data for AI agents
By Jackson Gathondu. Published 1 November 2026. Updated .
Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor write well, but on their own they cannot open a TikTok, watch a Reel or check which competitor Ads are still running. They answer from training data that is months old, or from a caption you paste in.
This guide covers what social media data an Assistant can read once you connect it to a data source, what that data includes on each Platform, and which marketing work it can then do for you. It is written for creative strategists, content marketers and growth marketers. You do not need to code.
What an AI agent cannot see on its own
Ask an Assistant what is working on TikTok this week and it will guess. Its training data stops at a cutoff date, it has no access to the apps, and most social platforms block the web browsing a model does. Paste a link and you usually get the caption at most.
Whether a short video works is decided in the video itself: the first three seconds, the words on screen, the pacing and the call to action. A model that reads only the caption sees none of that.
Connecting a data source changes that. The Assistant calls a tool, gets back structured data about real Videos, Creators and Ads, and writes from that data instead of from memory.
What your Assistant can read on each Platform
Coverage through ShortsIntel today. Everything it reads is public: posts, captions, public metrics, public profiles and the public ad libraries.
| Platform | What your Assistant can read | Not available |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok | Video search, lookup by URL, analysis of the video itself, transcripts, comments and Scores. Creators and their usual reach, Hashtags, Sounds, Keywords and Research. Ads from the TikTok Ad Library. | The TikTok Ad Library covers Ads shown in the EU/EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Turkey only. |
| Reels search, lookup by URL, analysis, transcripts and comments. Creators, Hashtags, Keywords and Research. | Sounds and Scores. Keyword search is best effort. | |
| YouTube | Shorts and long-form Videos: search, lookup and comments, and analysis of Videos up to 10 minutes long. Channels, Keywords and Research. | Channel data covers Shorts only. No Hashtags or Sounds; Scores come back on a channel's Shorts through get_creator, and score_video is TikTok only. |
| Video and Reel lookup, analysis and top-level comments. Pages, Keywords, and Video search when you ask for it. | Hashtags, Sounds and Scores. Video and Keyword search are best effort. | |
| Meta Ad Library | Ads by keyword, Advertiser, country, status, media type and placement, sorted by how long they have run. Ad analysis and Advertiser lookups. | Only what Meta's public Ad Library shows. |
Data limits
Data limits to know before you ask
- YouTube Creator data covers Shorts only, not long-form uploads.
- The TikTok Ad Library covers Ads shown in the EU/EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Turkey only.
- Sounds are TikTok only. Instagram Scores come back on a Creator's Reels under 30 days old through get_creator; score_video, which scores one Video on demand, is TikTok only.
- Hashtags are TikTok and Instagram only.
- Facebook Video search is opt-in and best effort. Instagram and Facebook Keyword search are best effort too.
- Refreshing a Research is TikTok only.
- Creator Trackers run on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, not YouTube.
The marketing use cases it covers
Once the data is connected, you ask for the work in plain language. These are the use cases marketers ask for most. Each one gets its own guide hub, listed at the end of this page as it goes live.
- Competitor ad research. Pull a competitor's running Meta and TikTok Ads, see which have run longest and how many variants were added, and get the hooks and offers summarised.
- Creative strategy and hooks. Find Videos in your niche that beat their Creator's usual reach, then have the Assistant quote their hooks word for word and turn them into templates.
- Trend research. Find the Sounds and Hashtags rising in your niche and see how Creators use them. The trending TikTok Sounds and trending TikTok Hashtags lists show the current leaders.
- Competitor and Creator tracking. Set a Tracker on a Creator, Hashtag, Sound, Keyword or Advertiser and get a Change Report when something moves, instead of checking accounts by hand.
- Transcript analysis. Read the transcripts of many Videos at once to see how winning scripts open and close. For a single Video, the free transcript generator works without an account.
- Niche Research. One Research searches across Platforms, ranks every Video by how far it beat its Creator's usual reach, watches the shortlist and returns a Digest of themes, hooks, formats and gaps.
How the connection works
The connection is an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other Assistants call outside tools. You add the ShortsIntel server once. After that the Assistant decides when to call a tool, such as search_ads to find Ads or research to study a niche, and reads what comes back.
Each call that does work is a Run, paid from a prepaid Balance of Credits at 1,000 credits per US dollar. There is no subscription. New accounts get 1,000 credits free, valid for 90 days. A Run that fails costs nothing, and a partial one is charged only for what finished. Every price is on the pricing page.
Developers can call the same data over a REST API. The developer page and the MCP quickstart cover keys, limits and every tool.
Connect your Assistant
The server address is the same for every Assistant, and none of them needs an API key: you sign in to ShortsIntel and choose which organization pays.
Claude.ai
Web and desktop. No API key: Claude signs in to ShortsIntel for you.

Cursor and VS Code
One-click install links; each asks you to confirm.
- In Cursor, open the Cursor install link.
- In VS Code, open the VS Code install link.
- Sign in to ShortsIntel when the editor asks.
Questions to ask first
Start small to see how your Assistant uses the data. Checking your Balance is free, and any paid call can quote its price before it runs if you ask for an estimate first.
- Check my ShortsIntel balance, then look up this TikTok and tell me how it did against the Creator's usual reach: (paste a link)
- Find Meta Ads for collagen powder that have run in the US for more than 30 days, and summarise their hooks and offers.
- Research the skincare niche on TikTok and Instagram Reels and give me five hook templates from the Videos that beat their Creator's usual reach.
- Track this competitor on TikTok and tell me when one of their Videos takes off: (paste a profile link)

Questions
- What is an AI agent for social media?
- It is an Assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT that can call tools to read social media data: search Videos, look up Creators, read Ads and track accounts, then act on what it finds. Without those tools it can only write from its training data.
- Can Claude or ChatGPT watch TikTok videos?
- Not on their own. Connected to ShortsIntel, they can ask for a Video's analysis, which covers the hook, visuals, on-screen text, call to action and transcript, and work from that instead of the caption alone.
- Which platforms can an AI agent read through ShortsIntel?
- TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube (Shorts and long-form Videos), Facebook, the Meta Ad Library and the TikTok Ad Library. The table on this page shows what each one covers and what it does not.
- Do I need to write code?
- No. In Claude.ai and ChatGPT you add a connector and sign in. Claude Code and Codex take one terminal command. Developers can use the REST API instead.
- How much does it cost?
- There is no subscription. You buy Credits up front and each Run is charged when it finishes. New accounts get 1,000 credits free, valid for 90 days. A Run that fails costs nothing, and a partial one is charged only for what finished.
- Is the data public?
- Yes. ShortsIntel reads public posts, captions, metrics, profiles and the public ad libraries. It never logs in to your social accounts and never touches your ad accounts.
Try it in your Assistant
Connect ShortsIntel to the Assistant you already use and ask the question this guide answers, or try the calls in the Playground first.
